Pharaohs & Pyramids: Postscript

After limping through Egypt & Jordan, often using walking sticks as crutches & sometimes actually using a Lofstrand crutch in hotels or airports, I had an MRI of the offending knee after we returned home. When he read the report, my personal physician’s diagnosis was that the knee was “a mess but not a surgical mess” (to my great relief). After some delay getting seen (someone else DID have a “surgical mess” & the doc left for the OR just as I arrived for my appointment), I finally saw the orthopedist.

Considering my advanced age & the fact that we have skied, & skied hard (trees, bumps & the deepest powder we could find), daily for so many years, I was surprised, but delighted, when the doctor proclaimed my troublesome left knee “in great shape”. He found nothing wrong with the ligaments, meniscus or cartilage. Even the joint spaces were maintained….& no arthritis! HOWEVER . . . . near the surface of the bone (the tibia) that comprises the lower edge of the knee joint, there was a bright white spot that should not have been there.

To quote Dr. T, “That had to have hurt like H*ll!” (Yup! It certainly did.) I did all that walking – Petra & Jerash especially – with a fracture! It wasn’t a very significant one, mind you, certainly not terribly serious and it has healed on its own, slowly*. But I wasn’t imagining the pain …..nor was I being a wuss!

Until next time….July in London & the Baltic….when hopefully I will have mastered a real website capable of handling multiple photos! **

*No it did not, but that is another story. ** No again. Not yet, but certainly before Easter Island and Antarctica in November!
